WordPress.org Updates Recommended Hosting List, Drops DreamHost

DreamHost is no longer listed on WordPress.org’s recommended hosting page. The change was made by Samuel Wood (known as Otto), a “Tech Ninja” at Audrey Capital. Now, the page features only three hosting providers: Pressable, Bluehost, and Hostinger.

No official reason was provided for DreamHost’s removal. The changeset simply noted, “Hosting: rm dreamhost, per matt.” Earlier this year, on January 17, 2024, DreamHost was also temporarily removed from the page but was reinstated later.

The WordPress Hosting page has been a hot topic in the community for a long time. People have often criticized the lack of transparency around how hosting providers are added or removed from this influential list.

For example, when SiteGround was removed from the list last year, many in the WordPress community demanded clearer guidelines to make the process more fair and open.

It’s also worth noting that WordPress.com, a major platform, is not included in the recommended hosting list.
